Metro Appoints Icon Construction To Build Newstead Tower

M

Construction has commenced on the first residential tower in Metro Property Development’s $400 million Newstead Central this week as sales for the luxury development take off.

Metro has appointed Icon Construction as the builder after holding a competitive tender.

Property buyers have already purchased all of the 149 apartments in the development’s first tower, Aqua Newstead Central. The tower features a choice of one and two bedroom apartments across 16 levels; a podium level pool; gymnasium; billiard room; and ground floor retail.

Metro Property Development Managing Director Luke Hartman said Icon Constructions lead the way in commercial and residential construction and development.

“Icon Construction proved to be the best fit for the job, with its extensive industry experience, expertise and resources,” he said.

“The company turns over in excess of $500 million annually in construction and $60 million annually in development and employs over 200 people in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane."“Its well established Sydney arm, in conjunction with its recent Brisbane addition, has strengthened its construction capacities while consolidating its development arm."“We’re pleased to have a builder on board with such professionalism, innovation and integrity.”

Metro Property Development co-founder and Chairman David Devine said the strong sales indicated that Metro had produced the right product for the inner-city market.

“The market is clearly voting with its feet,” he said.

“We felt there was a need for an exciting and stylish new development in Newstead with a strong emphasis on lifestyle and Newstead Central ticks all the right boxes."“The building is situated in one of Brisbane’s most vibrant inner-city suburbs; it’s well-connected to Brisbane city and other nearby employment nodes and there’s a range of shopping and dining venues nearby.”

Metro co-founder and Marketing Director Ken Woodley said the level of resident facility at Newstead Central gave it a distinct edge over its competitors.

“Aqua Newstead Central already has an amazing level of amenity, but the development as a whole will also feature man-made beaches, resort pools, sky terraces and gyms,” he said.

“Combined with the high quality apartments designed by renowned architects Cox Rayner, the lifestyle on offer at Newstead Central is guaranteed to impress.”

Newstead Central is at Stratton and Ann streets, Newstead – adjacent to the Waterloo Hotel, one of Brisbane’s most iconic landmarks. Upon completion, it will feature 920 luxury apartments across five stages.

Facilities include a densely vegetated resort style recreation deck, providing exclusive resident use to a lagoon pool, beach area, lap pool, plunge pool, outdoor kitchen/BBQ, sunbathing deck, picnic areas and a multi-purpose fitness studio.

The development is located less than 1.5km from the Brisbane CBD and across the road from the Emporium, home to restaurants, 35 specialty retailers and luxury boutiques.

Newstead Central is within walking distance to the $1.1 billion Gasworks redevelopment and James Street – both renowned for their restaurants, cafes and bars and shops.
