NSW Planning Recommends One Sydney Harbour at Barangaroo for Approval

Screen-Shot-2017-02-09-at-12

More than 600 new homes could join the mix of office buildings, shops and the planned Crown Sydney Hotel at Barangaroo South, after the New South Wales Government's Department of Planning and Environment recommended plans for two residential towers.

Lendlease has put the approval process for a third residential tower, proposed as part of the "One Sydney Harbour" site, on hold.

Executive Director of Key Sites and Industry Assessments, Anthea Sargeant, said the proposed $750 million developments would create 1215 construction jobs and 55 ongoing jobs once complete.

“After being closed to the public for more than 100 years, Barangaroo is transforming into a thriving new waterfront precinct for people to live, work, eat and play,” Sargeant said.

“The proposed development, known as ‘One Sydney Harbour,’ could provide 624 homes close to jobs, shops, public open space, a future metro station and the newly opened Barangaroo Ferry Hub.”

Renzo Piano Building Workshop was appointed to design the One Sydney Harbour tower complex in March 2015, following an international competition that attracted 25 submissions, according to ArchitectureAU.

"Lendlease oversaw the the construction of another significant building in Barangaroo earlier this year. International House Sydney, designed by Tzannes, became the world’s tallest engineered timber office building when it was completed in May," they said.

Ms Sargeant said LendLease had intended for the towers' design to reduce the impact on views from surrounding areas.

“It also includes a publicly accessible pedestrian walkway between the two buildings to connect the future Hickson Park and Watermans Cove, with shops, cafes and restaurants on each side," she said.

The final decision on the proposed development will now be made by the Planning Assessment Commission.
