Mixed-Use Development To Revamp The City Of Stonnington

P

City of Stonnington are currently assessing a proposal for a mixed-use, staged development that has been designed by

Rothelowman in collaboration with Victoria House Nominees Pty Ltd, which will reinvigorate the Victoria House Medical Imaging complex on Malvern Road Prahran.

Under the proposal the Victoria House Medical Imaging complex would be replaced by a hospital, an enhanced medical hub and two residential buildings, which will provide 154 apartments.

Additionally it would feature 153 car spaces and a café.

Rothelowman explained in the Town Planning Report that the design will reflect the medical industry.

“The design for the new Medical Centre loosely draws inspiration from concepts of 'motion' and 'body imaging'. Vertical blades, which also act as functional sun shading devices, shift across the facade, sculpting the upper levels," Rothelowman said.

“While the lower street wall explores the notion of transparency, the apartments buildings and townhouses have been designed to have a unique but complimentary character to the medical centre."The medical centre will include six levels, hosting a GP Clinic, specialist medical suites and the Victoria House Medical Imaging complex.

“The Medical Centre and Apartments buildings explore notions of rhythm, density, reflectivity and flow to create an architecture that is distilled and clear,” Rothelowman saidThe proposed development also shares Essex Street with the existing DHS Housing Estate, which is also earmarked for an upcoming development as part of the Prahran Estate Renewal.

To connect the two developments and support the key principles that DHS holds for redeveloping their site Rothelowman has provided the development with a public pedestrian link that will continue through the DHS Estate with direct access to Princes Garden.

The development application is currently being assessed.
