Toohey Miller Takes Covers Off Luxury Elizabeth Bay Tower

Days after receiving the green light from the NSW Land and Environment Court, Sydney developer Toohey Miller has revealed images of its luxury apartments at Elizabeth Bay.

The seven-storey development, No. 1 Onslow Place, comprises five whole-floor apartments and a two-storey penthouse in one of Sydney’s most well-heeled suburbs.

Land and Environment Court Commissioner Susan O’Neill upheld the appeal and, after revised plans were submitted, the City of Sydney Council agreed to them.

Toohey Miller founder Nick Couloumbis said the had brought together the best of design thinking to deliver apartments and “create an environment that resonates with the legacy of the location while offering a fresh perspective on luxury living”.

“No.1 Onslow Place was designed not just as a development but as six distinct and individual living spaces,” Couloumbis said.

“These residences are incredibly rare given their full-floor offering and views—we liken them to a Monet or Picasso. Rarity in property equals exceptional enduring value to future owners.

“Elizabeth Bay has some of the most beautiful views of the harbour. Perched so high, the elevated position of No.1 Onslow Place showcases views that are nothing short of spectacular.”

The apartments will capture views to the bay and across the road to the Arthur McElhone Reserve.

The developer filed the plans for Onslow Place in 2022 after acquiring all 12 strata titles in the 1960s block of flats on the site.

Last year Toohey Miller told The Urban Developer that the development would include five three-bedroom apartments, each across a single floor, measuring 181 square metres.

Levels 6 and 7 would comprise a four-bedroom penthouse of nearly 243sq m that included a rooftop terrace and pool.

Top Spring’s $24.9-million Ode penthouse sale at nearby Double Bay could set the bar high for those looking to acquire the two-storey penthouse at No. 1 Onslow Place.

The Tzannes-designed apartment block intertwines a distinctive curved brickwork, reminiscent of New York’s Art Deco era, with the 21st century.

Each residence has its own private lobby, complete with marble flooring and mirrored wall panelling.

Toohey Miller also won approval through the Land and Environment Court for its joint venture project with Thirdi at Potts Point in July this year.

It also filed plans for an SJB-designed downsizer development at 4 Barncleuth Square at Elizabeth Bay in June.

Toohey Miller has opened expressions of interest.

Meanwhile, about 250m from No.1 Onslow Place at the corner of Ithaca Road and Billyard Avenue a five-storey building is being redeveloped from 32 apartments to nine, which are tipped to fetch $16 million to $32.5 million each.

And Fortis is developing two apartment buildings at 21c Billyard Avenue and 10 Onslow Avenue, about 140m from No.1 Onslow. The proposed five and six-storey buildings by Smart Design Studio would cut the number of apartments on the 1464sq m sloped site from 28 to 22.
