A branch of the Catholic Church has filed an exceptional development application to build five large homes on land at risk of storm surge in cyclone-prone Darwin.

Cunnington Rosse Town Planning and Consulting senior planner Rory Mackay has filed plans on behalf of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart for a big block the Catholic organisation owns at 11 Banksia Street at Nightcliff, fronting the Timor Sea.

Missionaries of the Sacred Heart considers its existing church and residential buildings on the site, and the site itself, are surplus to operational needs.
