Community Housing Provider Plans Twin Inner-City Towers

St George Community Housing is adding 111 rental apartments at 338 Botany Road, Alexandria.

St George Community Housing plans to add 111 rental apartments in the next stage of development for an inner-south Sydney block

The plans on exhibition with the City of Sydney show a 10-storey building with a industrial-inspired facade for the site at 338 Botany Road, Alexandria in Sydney’s inner south.

The 2250sq m site that is on the corner witg Ashmore Connector Road is part of the urban renewal area around Green Square Station. 

The plans by DKO show ground-floor commercial space and two separate tower forms using industrial material that reflect the “historic nature and use” of the area.

There is also a central open space for a community hub designed by Arcadia between the tower forms.

In 2018, the city approved the subdivision of the large site into four lots—two of those were sold to community housing providers. according to the Keylan planning report.

City West Housing is planning 275 apartment project on its 6708sq m site at 330-332 Botany Road, Alexandria.

St George Community Housing provides homes for 11,500 people across 7000 properties in the Sydney Metropolitan Region. 

The Tier 1 provider is also working in a public-private partnership with AXA IM Alts to develop a build-to-rent project, which is under construction alongside project partners Deicorp and Housing Australia.

The project at 3 Farmhouse Road, Westmead, includeds five towers up to 24 storeys and was expected to be completed in late 2025.

The development will house more than 1000 Sydneysiders, offering 50 per cent market-rate housing and 50 per cent affordable housing.

SGCH chief executive Scott Langford emphasised the importance of government support to encourage institutional investment into affordable housing. 

“The scale of demand for well-located, sustainable and affordable-living options is unprecedented and meeting this need has significant social and economic benefits,” Langford said at the Westmead site.
