Winning WorkSafe Bid Brings Hundreds Of Jobs To Geelong

S

WorkSafe has confirmed that Quintessential Equity will develop its $120 million headquarters in the centre of Geelong.

The new 14-storey head office will house more than 700 WorkSafe workers and contractors above the historic Dalgety and Co building at 1 Malop St. The development will achieve a 6-star green rating.

During its construction it will create 22 new full-time jobs and three new full-time apprentices, and support local suppliers and contractors.

Minister for Finance Robin Scott said the 700 new workers would give Central Geelong a "huge economic boost".

Member for Geelong Christine Couzens said: "This is an exciting development for an historic part of Geelong that will help the CBD become more vibrant and be a stunning modern addition to our streetscape.”

WorkSafe’s move to Geelong is part of the State Government’s work to bring new jobs and industries to the region.

As part of a two-stage move from its current headquarters in Melbourne, more than 150 WorkSafe jobs, including insurance, health and safety, and support roles, will start in Geelong this year.

They will work in the TAC building at 60 Brougham St. The rest of head office is expected to move in 2018 when the development is complete.
