Thai Developer Wins $5 Billion Perth City Link Rights

1

Listed Thai developer, Minor International PLC, has won the rights to build two sites in the $5 billion Perth City Link, including to develop and launch its four to five star AVANI hotel brand.

The group won the bid after The Western Australian government's Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority released two sites in the project last year, with the 4000sqm holding slated for a mixed hotel, commercial and retail development.

Adjacent to the Perth Arena, the site will hold a 250-room AVANI branded hotel, scheduled to open late 2017.

Minor International will also develop a 15-level, 200-room serviced apartment complex next to the hotel, with residences estimated to cost between $200,000 to $800,000 each.

Speaking with The Australian, Minor Hotel Group CEO Dillip Rajakarier said he was actively looking at more sites in Australia for development, aiming to launch further AVANI branded properties in cities such as Melbourne, Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

"We are very excited to announce this new hotel and residential development in the centre of Perth, which represents in parallel - a significant investment for the group, the introduction of the AVANI brand to Australia, as well as a new destination for Minor Hotel Group within Australia," Mr Rajakarier said.

Planning Minister John Day said a hotel and tourist accommodation adjacent to the Arena was the perfect fit and the State Government welcomed Minor International PCL and its global brand.

"The hotel's convenient location to the arena will be sure to entice international performers and tourists," Mr Day said.

"Perth City Link is rapidly changing our city through high quality transport infrastructure, a sports and entertainment venue, and new commercial and retail offerings," the Minister said.

"Minor Group's investment will bring accommodation options to the project as well as new food and beverage brands and a public plaza featuring art, alfresco dining and open lawn and paved areas for leisure and recreation."It is expected the construction and sales of the AVANI residences will begin next year.
