Multiplex Wins Nod to Build Gold Coast’s 600-Bed Coomera Hospital
Multiplex has been appointed to deliver the 600-bed Coomera Hospital, clearing the way for the $2.25-billion northern Gold Coast project to move forward.
The facility is being delivered under Queensland’s Hospital Rescue Plan, which added 200 beds to the project after an independent review found the hospital, as originally planned, had been under-scoped and unfunded.
Delivery will done in stages from 2028, with all 600 beds due to complete by 2032.
Premier David Crisafulli said the bigger hospital would keep pace with population growth.
“The northern Gold Coast is one of the fastest-growing parts of Queensland, and we’re making sure families have access to health services when they need them, as their communities continue to grow,” Crisafulli said.
Civil works, retaining walls and permanent stormwater infrastructure are already under way, and works on the multi-storey carpark are set to start this month. Major foundation works, including concrete pours to support the hospital’s expanded footprint, bulk earthworks and remodelling of existing structures, are also progressing.
Multiplex was originally awarded the contract in 2023 under the former Palaszczuk government, when the hospital was scoped as a 404-bed, $1.3 billion facility due for completion in late 2027.
The 2023 version stalled after the 2024 change of government, with early works, including elevator shafts, already built before the Crisafulli government ordered a redesign over planning and cost concerns.
Theodore MP Mark Boothman said the new hospital would strengthen health services across the northern Gold Coast.
“This 600-bed hospital will mean more care closer to home for families, while adding much-needed capacity across the Gold Coast health system,” Boothman said.
The project is within the broader Hospital Rescue Plan pipeline of more than 2600 additional beds, three new hospitals and expansions at 10 hospitals across Queensland.
