Developer SJD Property has filed plans with the Willoughby Council to replace an old Northbridge hotel with a boutique shoptop apartment complex.
Designed by Bates Smart Architects, the five-storey project would offer 24 apartments and six retail tenancies.
Curretly on the site is the two-storey Northbridge Hotel and Northbridge Village, comprising multiple low-density retail premises.
The proposal would deliver a 5116sq m gross floor area of which 3817sq m would be residential.
Twelve of the apartments would be adaptable. The apartments would be betrween two and four bedrooms and range in size from 112sq m to 260sq m—all would have balconies facing the street.
The site at 57-69 Strathallen Avenue will also include a public through-site link connecting Strathallen Avenue and the existing laneway at 134 Sailors Bay Road, with a landscaped courtyard providing amenity for the public as well as residents.
The site itself is considered a “prominent marker” on a major access road for the Lower North Shore suburb.
The site is less than 300m from Northbridge Plaza shopping centre, 3km from North Sydney and 6km to Chatswood.
Hong Kong-based SJD Property has completed several high-end projects in Sydney, including a project across from the Double Bay Intercontinental Hotel, which is undergoing a major revamp that began last year.
SJD sits in the low-to-medium-density space that is proving its worth in Sydney, especially with the introduction of transit-orientated development areas and affordable infill allowances in recent months.
