Apartment Building Enlists Parcel Technology Specialist

69e975d9-3158-4172-9571-2f40ad7c1d87

The growth of e-commerce and parcel deliveries has presented several challenges for apartment buildings.

Today more than ever, Australians are looking for secure contact-free home delivery as the country bunkers down during the coronavirus crisis.

The lockdown has seen a boost to the entire e-commerce market with the coronavirus outbreak suddenly and drastically shifting consumer habits and spending.

Prior to lockdown, parcel delivery grievances among residents in apartment buildings included stolen or missing packages, having to wait for deliveries and collecting missed items from the local post office or delivery depot.

Continuous and daily deliveries have never been more important with large swaths of the population stuck at home.

Leading technology specialist My Parcel Locker has continued to provide a proven delivery solution for apartment and commercial buildings.

The company has seen its systems installed at a 320 apartment project in Newstead and the results have been exceptional.

▲ The building management team responsible for the management of a number of Mirvac apartment complexes, witnessed the growth of parcel volumes first hand and the challenges that this created.

The building management team responsible for the management of a number of Mirvac apartment complexes, witnessed the growth of parcel volumes first hand and the challenges that this created.

“Installing a parcel locker has made life easier for residents, with deliveries kept safe until residents are ready to collect them,” said My Parcel Locker owner Kim Kake.

“The response to the parcel locker was so positive that the body corporate has approved the locker system as the only way that parcels can be delivered into the building.”

▲ When the resident is ready, they can go to the parcel locker and collect their parcel by scanning the QR code found in their delivery notification.

For building residents the risk of parcel deliveries has been eliminated, while onsite managers no longer have to deal with couriers and parcels.

Newstead parcel locker system:

  • 40 door parcel locker services 320 apartments.

  • 271 registered users in the apartment complex.

  • The delivery process is much faster at an average delivery time of 27 seconds per parcel.

  • Over 100 signature required parcels successfully delivered into the locker each month.

  • Deliveries increased from 340 parcels in the first month, to approximately 555 parcels per month which is expected to increase to 700 deliveries for April 2020, due to Covid-19 lockdown.

Residents are encouraged to collect their parcels within the 24 hour free pick up period while those collected after that time are charged a small storage fee.

The process is safe and simple—a bluetooth access system allows Couriers into the building’s locker area.

As soon as a parcel is entered into the locker, a delivery notification with pick up instructions is automatically sent to the recipient.

Contact-free delivery

▲ The systems provide secure touch-free delivery with users simply scanning the QR code sent to their phone. The locker door will automatically open and they can collect their parcel without touching the locker device.

My Parcel Locker is also proud to support Australian workers and their families by manufacturing lockers in Australia.

The company's factory is located in Brisbane allowing fast turn around and custom designs for all building types. Normal lead time is 6 weeks from order to delivery.

Other delivery solutions

Refrigerated lockers

Refrigerated lockers provide a secure solution for food and cold parcel deliveries to apartment and commercial buildings, combating thieves who follow couriers and make off with goods.

Pilot programs with Uber Eats and major supermarkets are in the pipeline.

Intelligent mailboxes

Intelligent mailboxes are also part of the delivery solution. The electronic mailboxes are keyless and are opened via pincode, fob or directly from your mobile phone.

Every time mail is delivered or collected, the recipients will receive a notification.

This ensures that mail is collected on a regular basis and users only go to their mailbox when there is a mail delivery.

The intelligent mailboxes make it difficult for mail theft as there are no locks to pry open and the super strong stainless steel catch engages with the electronic lock to secure the mailbox door.

Intelligent mailboxes provide a high tech look for buildings and reduce the risk of mail theft leading to identity theft.

More developments are now including parcel locker rooms in their building designs as a standard inclusion and amenity.

Many of these parcel locker rooms incorporate intelligent mailboxes and refrigerated lockers, to provide a total delivery solution.

This is being well received by buyers and residents alike who see the true value of mail and parcel security.
