Mooloolaba developer Cube Developments is planning a 98-unit Golden Beach complex of apartments as the Sunshine Coast continues to heat up.
The development application from Project Urban submitted to the Sunshine Coast Council proposes five separate buildings in the Caloundra suburb south-west of the CBD.
The complex, called Palms, will have a maximum height of two storeys, consisting of 49 two-bed and another 49 three-bed units.
Each ground level unit will have a terrace of 20sq m with 10 per cent communal space.
Designed by Queensland architects JSTN, the project will be part of an integrated tourism accommodation development in the burgeoning visitor and residential hotspot that looks over the Pumicestone Passage to the northern tip of Bribie Island.
Cube’s senior development manager, Daniel Ryan, said that the project would “elevate the destination’s economy and tourism appeal”.
“Future owners of the units will have the flexibility to use the properties for either short-term or permanent residential accommodation,” he said in a media release.
The apartments will have full access to the Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis resort facilities on which the site, at 2C North Street and 2 Landsborough Parade, Golden Beach, sits.
A mini-golf course, playground and other recreational facilities on the site will be relocated and upgrades to the water park surrounds are also proposed.
The Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014 includes the site within the Tourist Accommodation Zone and the Caloundra Local Plan Area.
“Palms will be a much-needed boost for the Caloundra economy with forecasted 100-plus jobs during construction,’’ Cube’s Ryan said.
“With the construction industry facing increased pressures on multi-storey residential developments, we expect this low-scale density development to fill a niche in the market.’’
Cube Developments has been focused on the Sunshine Coast in recent years, delivering One Prosperity Birtinya, which sold $28 million worth of apartments within three months.
It was also approved last year for a joint venture with McNab to deliver a $30-million residential enclave at Peregian Springs.
