Cedar Woods Reveals Southbank Tower Plan

Rothelowman's render for Woodbrooke Property's residential tower at 151 Sturt Street in Melbourne's Southbank.

Developer Cedar Woods has put forward highrise plans for Melbourne’s Southbank.

Cedar Woods is proposing a 20-storey tower on the 2717sq m site at 151 Sturt Street under the plans now before the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.

The Rothelowman-designed scheme comprises 180 apartments and 735sq m of commercial space on the first floor as well as two basement levels.

The design includes 155 carparking spaces across the two basement levels and the first, second and third floors.

It also proposes 226 bicycle storage spaces on the ground floor with a food and drink tenancy that fronts Dodd Street.

A shop tenancy is also proposed for the ground floor fronting Sturt Street while a commercial tenancy planned for the first floor is earmarked as a creative arts space.

There are 28 studio, 16 one-bedroom, 104 two-bedroom and 32 three-bedroom apartments under the plans.

The 20-storey tower will have 180 apartments in total.

A two-storey building occupied by an IGA sits on the site between the Aria Melbourne tower and the Novus Southbank project.

The Malthouse Theatre and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts are also on Sturt Street.  St Kilda Road and its tram and trainline connections are two blocks to the east.

Developers are proposing residential towers at Southbank as older commercial and industrial sites become available.

In Southbank, demolition has just begun on a $220-million tower for the Salvos while developers including PDG Corp, Beulah and Gurner Group also have projects in the suburb.
