Leaders in Decarbonisation to be Celebrated at Awards

ULI, The Urban Developer AWARD FOR DECARBONISATION IN REAL ESTATE.

A leader in helping the real estate sector become more environmentally responsible will be recognised in Australia for the first time thanks to a partnership between two leading urban-development-focussed organisations.

The ULI Award for Decarbonisation in Real Estate will make its debut at this year’s The Urban Developer’s annual awards for Industry Excellence, to be presented on the Gold Coast in August.

The award, which recognises a project or program that demonstrates best-practice for the decarbonisation of real estate, is part of a world-first partnership focused on sharing content and ideas, connecting industry leaders and celebrating sustainable development.

The Urban Developer founder and chief executive Adam Di Marco said the organisation was “thrilled to partner with ULI to recognise a leader in the decarbonisation within our sector, which will in turn encourage and inspire more focus on this vital aspect of our industry”.

The ULI Award for Decarbonisation in Real Estate will take into account:

  • Design and construction strategies to reduce embodied carbon footprint

  • Design strategies to reduce operational carbon

  • The use of on-site renewable energy

  • Stakeholder strategies to achieve decarbonisation

  • Impact on market value through investing in decarbonisation.

The award will be judged by an independent panel of ULI executives and committee members, who will be looking to recognise the project that best represents low-carbon real estate in a holistic way.

The jury’s emphasis will be on programs that have a proven track record, have demonstrated innovation and have the potential to scale across the industry and community.

Nominations for the award, and the other 23 categories in this year’s The Urban Developer’s annual awards for Industry Excellence, are now open.

Delivered in partnership with Trilogy Funds, this year nominations are being called for across two main streams: Industry Excellence and Development of the Year.

Early bird nominations are now open, offering a saving of more than $50 per entry by submitting before the first entry deadline of April 17.

Partnership an industry first

The award is just one aspect of the new partnership between The Urban Land Institute (ULI), a global non-profit education and research institute dedicated to responsible development, and The Urban Developer, Australia’s largest media, events and education network for the property industry, which was announced this week.

Di Marco said partnership with ULI would allow The Urban Developer to leverage their global network and reputation as thought leaders within the property industry.

“This partnership will enable us to deliver even more insights and knowledge to our large audience of property professionals while raising the profile of the ULI in Australia,” Di Marco said.

Australia and Asia Pacific ULI Executive Committee chair Leonie Wilkinson, who is also Brookfield Asset Management’s senior vice president, portfolio management, real estate, said the ULI had a rich tradition of thought leadership and industry engagement globally.

“We’re delighted to establish this world-first partnership with The Urban Developer to build our profile and membership base in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region,” she said.

The partnership is the first of its kind globally for the ULI and is part of a broader push by both organisations to connect, inform and inspire the industry to deliver sustainable built environment outcomes into the future.
