Toowong Development's 'Intended Character' Key To Approval

g

Sunland Group’s Grace on Coronation development is back on track, with the dismissal of an appeal against the approval of its $430 million three tower complex at the site of the former ABC studios in Toowong.

Acting on behalf of Sunland, McCullough Robertson celebrated the decision, made by Judge Michael Rackemann in the Planning and Environment Court.

Lead Partner Stuart Macnaughton said Sunland’s master plan for the site coupled with the intended character of Toowong as a dynamic, contemporary precinct were key arguments in the case.

“His Honour found that the development, and its high level of architectural excellence, would achieve city wide prominence,” Mr Macnaughton said.

Additionally the site’s master plan skilfully balanced all the scheme requirements and site constraints and delivered substantial public space and access to the river to the communities benefit.

The towers, two of 24 storeys and the other 27, were designed by the late British-Iraqi architect Dame Zaha Hadid.

Together they will house 555 units and include parkland and retail.

Zaha Hadid had said "the design tapers each structure to minimise their footprint and open the riverfront to the public, creating a vibrant civic space for Toowong with a new riverside park."When completed the towers will be the late Pritzker prize-winning architect's first Australian work.
