In an initiative between the Parramatta City Council and the Parramatta River Catchment Group, Lord Mayor Councillor Scott Lloyd has announced that Parramatta will have its own beach.
"We aim to make the Parramatta River swimmable by 2025," he said.
"People want to see the river activated again."Earlier in the week the council approved a strategy to include riverfront renewal and development as part of the city's urban renewal plan.
Urban design and landscape architecture firm McGregor Coxall prepared the design for the $194 million riverfront space and facilities together with more than $1 billion of mixed-use development.
