Brisbane Stadium Delivery Partners Whittled Down to Two

Two multi-national partners will test the buildability of the Brisbane Stadium after moving onto the next stage of the race to become the builder of the new Olympics 2032 venue.
Australian-owned Tier 1 construction firm Built, in partnership with Madrid-based SACYR, which has international infrastructure experience, remain in the running.
As do internationals John Holland and BESIX Watpac, which have a strong track record of stadium delivery in Queensland and abroad.
The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority launched the competition to whittle down the JV partners who will have Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) in the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games venue.
The Victoria Park stadium will host the Games opening and closing ceremonies and athletics, before becoming the home of the Brisbane Lions AFL, Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls teams.
The GIICA said the competition attracted interest from companies across the world, and cutting the entrants down to two took five months.
Both the JVs will take part in the ECI phase, with each team working independently with GIICA and the design team to propose innovative and efficient build solutions to help deliver the stadium “on time and on budget”.
The idea behind a dual ECI process is to “rigorously test buildability, sequencing, risk and opportunity early” according to GIICA.
The final builder will be selected at the end of the three-month process. They will be announced later in 2026.

GIICA will take possession of Victoria Park on June 1, closing the park to the public to make way for early works.
Construction is slated to begin in 2027.
The Brisbane Stadium in Victoria Park adjacent to the new National Aquatic Centre will have capacity for 63,000 spectators for the Olympics, and 70,000 for concerts.
The stadium design team, a collaboration between Cox Architecture, Hassell and Azusa Sekkei appointed earlier this year, determined field size, orientation and the location for the stadium last month.
It will be located near Gilchrist Avenue, and equivalent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Able to support AFL, cricket and concerts as well as Brisbane 2032 Olympics events.
Its east-west orientation will optimise sun position, winds and operational needs for AFL and cricket, the team said.
The Brisbane Stadium is part of the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
