Affordable Tower Planned for Melbourne’s North-East

A 17-storey tower would add more than 200 apartments to Victoria’s affordable housing stock under plans filed for Melbourne’s north-east.
Greensborough Central Investments is proposing a $55-million affordable housing project that is in line for funding from the Commonwealth’s Housing Australia Future Fund.
The proposed mixed-use development of 211 apartments is planned for a 5789sq m site at 106-126 Main Street, Greensborough, 17km from Melbourne’s CBD.
The Cera Stribley-designed tower would comprise 94 one and 117 two-bedroom apartments above ground-level retail space. All would be affordable housing.
It is on the site of a Savers store, with the development proposed for the rear of the block.
“The development will provide 25 per cent social housing and 75 per cent affordable housing, exceeding the 10 per cent requirement,” according to the planning document’s affordable housing report.
