A Faster Way To Get Pre-Design Transport And Traffic Advice

t

Getting the design right from the start is the key to a successful development process. The ‘right’ design is one that meets the needs of all stakeholders at the outset. Achieving this requires careful consideration and effective collaboration.

Prelodgement advice has always been an important part of the development assessment process. By seeking advice in the early stages of planning and design, customers can ensure their development application addresses potential development assessment issues, including the impacts on existing transport infrastructure.

Seeking advice early helps to reduce complications and potential delays throughout the assessment process, saving customers time and money.

In July 2014, following extensive consultation with stakeholders, Brisbane City Council introduced its first fast-track prelodgement process for customers called AdviceSMART. The service has grown quickly and Council now receives approximately 420 AdviceSMART requests per year.

Council’s AdviceSMART meetings aim to take place within five business days as opposed to the usual 10 business days. AdviceSMART meetings are only available for legitimate pre-purchase enquiries and attract an additional fee.

Following the successful implementation of AdviceSMART, Council has taken innovation one step further and has recently introduced its first ever Pre-design Strategic Transport and Traffic Advice Service.

This service has been designed in response to development industry feedback about the need to identify and resolve significant transport and traffic matters prior to their investment in preparing detailed design plans for a proposal.

Council’s website. You will need to upload a site plan including all access points as a Word, PDF or JPG to complete your application online.

More information and advice
This service attracts a fee and detailed information is available on

Council’s website for customers to learn more about the development application process, requirements and how to apply.

Customers can also access a number of development application fact sheets and training videos which include step-by-step instructions about common enquiries.

For more personalised advice, Council also offers a telephone service with access to experienced planning officers to support business customers.

For more information about this service, visit the

pre-design strategic transport and traffic advice section of Council’s website or call 133 BNE (133 263).
