Doma Group Plans Upgrade of Former Sony Headquarters

Doma Group EDM

Doma Group has filed plans to upgrade the former headquarters of Sony in Australia.

The building at 11 to 19 Hargrave Street, Darlinghurst, is 350m east of Sydney CBD.

The application to the City of Sydney, reveals that Doma Group wants to deliver “upgraded internal amenities that reflect a modern, best practice workplace”.

It wants to spend more than $7 million reconfiguring the ground level to remove parking spaces and incorporate further end-of-trip facilities, as well as refurbishing the lobby area.

Doma plans to deliver “cold shell” office tenancies on the ground floor to level 2 with relocated bathrooms, fire stairs and services.

It will also remove some rooftop carparking and build an external roof terrace.

The three-storey offices were purpose built and fitted with office, storage and sound studios to record and manage Australian music talent.

Sony is moving into offices at 56 to 78 Oxford Street, also in Darlinghurst, and submitted an application to the City of Sydney in August, 2023 to redevelop the site.

Sony is among the largest record labels in Australia with about 70 artists on its roster. It is part of the global Sony Music Entertainment organisation.

The proposed fitout of its new digs would suit its administrative, artistic and commercial needs, Sony said, and act as a major anchor for the Oxford Street Cultural and Creative precinct.

Uncertainty continues in the office sector, with asset owners focused on refurbishing and upgrading B-grade offices.

Refurbishment and reuse is also the only way to achieve net-zero targets, according to industry experts.
