Kaymet Plots 18-Storey $126m Bankstown Centre Shoptop

In the latest plan 3 per cent (eight units) of the 225 apartments would be made affordable.

The 4047sq m site is on Dharug land, a five minute walk to Bankstown train station and 16km southwest of the Sydney CBD, in Bankstown’s rezoned Transit Oriented Development precinct.

The Southwest Metro line, due to open October, will terminate at Bankstown.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Council aims to build 14,500 homes by 2029, and almost 40,000 by 2036, to accommodate a forecasted 135,000 new residents.

About 70 per cent of the tower would comprise two-bedroom apartments, while a fifth of units would be single-bed formats and the remainder would be three-bedroom apartments.

Retail space of about 222sq m for three tenants would be provided at the ground floor of a four-storey podium.

A through-site link between East and West Terraces would be included in 1110sq m of public open space.

Three basement levels would provide 239 car spaces.

Lead architect Zhaleh Sharifi of Tony Owen Partners said the design was inspired by the colour and angular shape of gum leaves.

Elsewhere in Bankstown’s Transit Oriented Development hub, Sydney Anglican Property’s all-affordable 20-storey tower won approval in May.

A development for two residential blocks of seven and eight-storeys, half of total units affordable, was approved in June.

The Bankstown Compass Centre across the tracks is being redeveloped into a three tower, 19 to 24-storey mixed-use development.

Secretary’s environmental assessment requirements (SEARs) were issued for seven shoptop towers of about 1572 homes in the middle of town last year.

Kaymet’s Bankstown project is expected to cost about $126,600,000 million to build.
