Consolidated Properties has proposed its latest commercial project, an innovative 17 storey office building at the end of Brisbane’s busy Queen Street.
Designed by John Wardle Architects, the proposed development addresses an awkward shaped site with a striking architectural statement.
The development, known as 550 Queen Street, will replace the former Emerald Tower development that was previously proposed on the site.
Consolidated Properties purchased the site in May 2012 for $2.7m - a comparative bargain compared to the $4.4m paid for the 1,281sqm site in 2001.
550 Queen will comprise a total of 18,500 square metres of Gross Floor Area and 78 car parks. It will also feature a sky garden on its rooftop with views of the Brisbane city skyline along with restaurant and cafe space on its ground level.
The rooftop Sky Garden will also display thoughtful design elements such as a weatherproof shade structures and glass screens as part of the building’s façade, so as to reduce the impact of wind.
The development aims at re-establishing the Queen Street and Ann Street alignments, and hopes to ignite interest in the adjacent Clark Lane.
In order to do so, the proposed cafe’s entrance has been placed on Clark Lane, mimicking the famous Melbourne laneways.
The lobby of the development is set to be a ‘grand space’, boasting high ceilings and a sculptural fully glazed interior rich in detail and material.
