Unused space under Melbourne’s major highways could be used for much-needed community infrastructure as the City of Melbourne pushes ahead with a design process.

The city’s planning committee, the Future Melbourne Committee, this month voted to direct staff to prepare a final, more detailed design for the Northern Undercroft and City Road project.

It also voted to rename the project as the City Road Undercroft Park and to direct staff to select a preferred principal contractor.
