The third annual The Urban Developer Awards, in association with Construction Industry Solutions (COINS), recognises standout property industry performers from across Australasia.

The awards program is a little different this year: delivered digitally, with the previously held black-tie gala dinner replaced with our extended virtual celebration, Winners’ Month.

Today, we celebrate Development of the Year - New Communities proudly presented by Construction Industry Solutions (COINS).

This award recognises excellence in the development of masterplanned communities in the built-form or land estates sector.

The finalists for Development of the Year - New Communities:

  • Jackson Green
    Cedar Woods Properties

  • Central Springs Estate
    QM Properties

  • South Village
    Deicorp Pty Ltd

And the winner is...

Watch the video to listen to a Q&A with the winner.

About this project

Jackson Green is breathing new life into Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs with its diverse range of high-quality, affordable dwellings and well-designed green spaces.

The 6.5-hectare residential masterplan integrates 151 townhouses and 427 apartments across four apartment buildings, surrounding a central park area alongside an internal road network, and pedestrian links.

Jackson Green is an outstanding example of a new community, where sympathetic design has added value to an established neighbourhood.

Project details

  • The project comprises 151 townhouses and 427 apartments, designed by DKO architecture.

  • Gardenia and Wattle apartment buildings achieved 7.1 and 6.7-star energy ratings under the NatHERS rating system. Huntington and Aster apartments aim to achieve 6.6-star energy ratings.

  • The site includes 4,740sq m of public open space with three community reserves: Entry Park on Orchid Street, Central Park and the Pocket Park on Jackson Green Boulevard. These green spaces were designed by MDG Landscape Architects.

  • Large tracts of existing native vegetation have been preserved, including the establishment of tree protection zones to retain mature native species.

A word from the winner...

“We find that in these communities it's great to have a mix of different people all lending together around the central park,” Cedar Woods Properties chief operating officer Patrick Archer said.

“Sustainability features really heavily in the project—4000L storage rain water tanks, kill switches and we include conduits for the future fitting of solar panels.

“In Jackson Green we really perfected the art of developing really nice, efficient medium-density in-fill development. We've really learnt through this project and we're ready for the next one.”
