Plans have been lodged for an apartment project in a ‘transitional’ suburb in Canberra’s inner north.
The proposal for 2-6 Stockdale Street in the suburb of Dickson has been lodged by Stockdale Holdings, the sole director of which is listed as Stephen Stockdale.
Shaw Building Group’s plans for the site will demolish the existing three houses and build a multi-unit housing project of 21 apartments.
There will be three adaptable units within the four-storey building.
The proposal also seeks approval for consolidation of the existing blocks.
The development application said the built form provided “an appropriate transition between high-density development and low-density development”.
It provided more options for those wanting to live in the inner-north, and “contributes to the housing choices and large size of housing needs in Dickson”.
The proposal showed “a considered stepping role” the site would play in transitioning from the more intense Northbourne Corridor to the less intense inner-north area, the developer said.
At four storeys, its “transition design” was appropriate for its surrounding existing buildings, including seven-storey and three-storey multi-unit developments and townhouses.
“This proposal will provide more residential capacity in an existing area well located near public transport and multiple employment, commercial and recreational areas,” it said.
The suburb of Dickson has been tipped as a major growth area even within ACT as a whole, which is expected to reach 784,043 people in 2060, from 453,5581 in June 2021.
Home prices are expected to continue their upward trajectory, with PropTrack forecasting a 5 per cent increase in 2024-25.
