International education is worth an estimated $47.8 billion to the Australian economy, so there were many delighted to hear student accommodation suddenly appear front and centre in Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ third Budget speech last week.
“Australia’s international education sector is a national asset,” Chalmers said.
That was the carrot but then came the stick. Or several sticks.
