A nine-storey boutique residential building is the latest proposal to be filed in the southern Gold Coast’s beachfront renewal pocket of Rainbow Bay.
Under the plans, the proposed development would comprise eight units, one per floor, as well as a two-level penthouse.
The proposal has been filed by Newmil Development, led by Chris Newman and Mark Milton, and is earmarked for a 546sq m site at 41 Eden Avenue, Coolangatta.
It would replace an ageing two-storey block of three units.
The slender scheme has been designed by Stuart Osman Building Design with its facade featuring distinctive rounded elements.
According to a planning report supporting the development application, the proposed development “provides a high-quality design which will positively contribute to the character of Coolangatta”.
“The design responds to its coastal context and provides a modern form, incorporating a visually appealing mix of built form elements and materials,” it said.
At the first level, the proposal includes a two-bedroom apartment, lobby and communal pool area. Six three-bedroom, whole-floor apartments are planned for levels two to seven.
Capping the proposed development is a double-storey, four-bedroom penthouse with private rooftop terrace with a pool and deck.
Sixteen resident car parking spaces are to be provided with a two-car stacker system for each apartment. Two visitor car parking also would be offered.
“The proposed development is considered an appropriate infill development opportunity providing higher concentration infill housing options,” the documents said.
Across the road, Brisbane-based developer Chapter Two has secured a builder for its $160-million Holm project at Rainbow Bay.
Construction is due to start soon with Groupline Constructions appointed to deliver the 12-storey, 87-unit development, which is approved for a 1900sq m site at 44-50 Eden Avenue in the Point Danger precinct overlooking Snapper Rocks.
