Why SEQ Residential Developers Need Natural Gas

4e5739b4-836a-44a4-82f6-06ef50f33f27

As natural gas gains more momentum in the market, many new developments are now turning to the resource as a way to increase the appeal of a project.

Consequently gas is proving particularly successful throughout the rapidly growing residential pockets of South East Queensland.

Natural gas is an abundant, reliable energy source that provides more than a third of the energy being currently used by Australians, and its uses extend beyond the heating and cooking appliances.

Indeed, the gas is increasingly being used by developers and builders to create comfortable lifestyles — both indoors and outdoors — for residents, which in turn makes their product more desirable for buyers.

With more than 70 per cent of Queensland’s population found in South East Queensland, developers are also beginning to look towards natural gas as a way to meet the demands of the indoor/outdoor lifestyle many Queenslanders aspire to.

That makes natural gas a key element for barbeques, cooktops and indoor and outdoor heating.

Previously an underutilised resource in the region, natural gas is available in most new estates and developments throughout key growth pockets, and new infrastructure is expanding the network even further, making it even more accessible to developers.

The two major natural gas networks in Queensland, Australian Gas Networks and the Allgas network, are managed by APA Group, which has been connecting Australia since 2000.

The ASX Top 50 company currently owns and operates the largest interconnected gas transmission network across Australia.

The expansion of the natural gas network into South East Queensland now covers many suburban areas and growth corridors in Brisbane, Ipswich, the Gold Coast, and areas north of Burpengary.

“The current natural gas network in Queensland services more than 200,000 homes and business and the network is still expanding,” APA group executive, networks & power, Sam Pearce said.

“There is a lot of opportunity for residents with access to the natural gas network to incorporate it year-round and truly enjoy a Queensland lifestyle.”

Many Australians currently use natural gas for creating continuous hot water, heating their homes, cooking their food, and fuelling methods of transportation.

However, it is the resource’s ability to create a comfortable modern lifestyle for Queenslanders that is drawing buyers in the Sunshine State to developments that include natural gas.

South East Queensland offers a subtropical climate enabling the majority of residents to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. This is one of the major drawcards for those migrating to the region.

“The needs of new home buyers are changing, developers as well as builders must be across what these needs are and offer suitable solutions,” Ownit Homes joint managing director Brad Ganim said.

“Over the past twelve months we’ve experienced an increasing number of clients really pressure testing their new home options and one of the big items they are looking for is accessibility to natural gas.”

Natural gas is becoming ever more desirable in the market with an increasing appetite from new home owners, builders and developers to use the resource.

This increasing interest is due in part to the increased number of mixed residential/commercial projects entering the market, as well as redevelopments that have recently started construction.
