Pipeline: The Live-In Display Suite Experiment

Melbourne developer Hip V. Hype is all about sharing its sustainability learnings through development, consultancy and now with a unique live-in display suite.

Earlier this year the boutique developer threw open the doors on one of its two-bedroom apartments in Ferrars & York at South Melbourne.

Development and sales director Katya Crema spoke to The Urban Developer’s Taryn Paris about their live-in display suite experiment, HV.Hotel.

Crema said it was not about turning residual stock into a revenue stream, but rather had been designed with a sustainably designed hotel experience in mind.

“We’re heavily focused on creating sustainably focused benchmark projects here in Melbourne, but also providing cutting-edge sustainability advice all around Australia,” Crema said.

“HV.Hotel is a highly curated two-bedroom apartment in our completed project, Ferrars & York, that is fully furnished and essentially an example of what it is like to live in a Hip V. Hype apartment.

“Guests that come and stay will experience not only the design features of the apartment and the fit-out, but also the sustainability elements that make living in this apartment so great.”

Crema said the experience had been carefully curated down to the earthenware, furniture and manchester, all of which aligned with the values of sustainable living. The apartment features local Melbourne potter Robert Gordon crockery, furniture by Great Dane, and Vivien Anderson Gallery among others.

Crema and partner Liam Wallis live in Ferrars & York with their two young children.

They recently released the findings of their year-long study of the building’s environmental performance and also won Development of the Year for medium density for Ferrars & York in The Urban Developer’s Awards for Industry Excellence.

“My partner and I live in our project Ferrars & York, and at 22 apartments the scale feels really good. We know all our neighbours, it’s a really nice community,” she said.

And that community has opened its doors to guests staying at HV.Hotel.
