Palm Beach Tower Hotspot Strikes Again

A sliver of road between the Gold Coast Highway and Jefferson Lane is growing up as developers move in on the quieter end of the coast at Palm Beach.

Developer Sammy Saad has filed plans with the Gold Coast City Council to build a 14-storey apartment tower on a 1650sq m amalgamated site he acquired this year at 1177-1179 Gold Coast Highway.

It’s the third to be lodged in the quickly evolving precinct in as many months following Gold Coast local Brent Freeman filing plans for a 23-apartment tower at 1199 Gold Coast Highway, and Graya making its Gold Coast debut with a 19-dwelling beachfront tower at 2 Palm Beach Avenue.

Saad is managing director of construction firm Daascon, which is likely to build the tower once approved.

The BDA Architects-designed tower would accommodate 38 apartments ranging in size from two to four bedrooms, which would cater to the owner-occupier market.

“This project offers the opportunity to design a contemporary coastal architectural building along the emerging residential precinct of Palm Beach,” the architectural statement said.

“Layers of gentle curved slab edges, planter sand screening are morphed to create a unified yet elegant sculptural design.

“The building has been designed to respond to its subtropical environment with the provision of deep overhangs, screening for solar protection and privacy, and planting to reduce the micro climate.

“Our vision is to create a high-quality residential apartment building that achieves a high standard of architecture, liveability and appropriate scale within the Palm Beach site context.”

The built form incorporates tapered hoods and a timber-look soffit to articulate the building and break up the bulk.

There will be 84 carparks split across two basement levels and a communal recreation area at ground floor, which would include a large outdoor barbecue area, pool, lounge areas, private dining a gymnasium.

The tower would include two two-bedroom units at the ground floor, 30 three-bedroom apartments, and six four-bedroom apartments, which included two whole-floor penthouses on the upper levels.

According to planning documents, the variety of apartment layouts would accommodate “various owner-occupier demographics”, including families and professionals.

The development also caters for a 2m road resumption slated for Jefferson Lane in the future.

Two and three-storey apartment blocks on the three amalgamated sites would make way for the development.

GV Property Group’s Luke Reaby cut the deal with two neighbouring properties, after securing the amalgamation of six apartments at 1177 Gold Coast Highway.
