Oreana Plots Convenience Hub for Melbourne Growth Suburb

Oreana Clyde Convenience Centre DA hero

Melbourne-based Oreana Property is sticking to its game plan of developing in key growth suburbs, lodging plans for a convenience retail centre in the city’s south-east.

The proposal is earmarked for a 8929sq m site at 1895 Ballarto Road, Clyde, at the gateway to the masterplanned estate of Riverfield.

To be known as The Square Clyde, it would comprise 14 retail and commercial tenancies across 2200sq m—including a supermarket, medical centre, food and beverage outlets, restaurants and specialty shops.

The Clarke Hopkins Clarke-designed centre would be positioned alongside a 146-place childcare centre being developed by Oreana Property and due for completion in late 2024.

Oreana has recently completed 95 townhouses across two projects in the Clyde area. It acquired the Ballarto Road site last year for $5.6 million from Brown Property Group, the developer of the Riverfield estate.

If approved, The Square Clyde is due for completion in mid-2025.

Oreana Property managing director Tony Sass said the project would complement surrounding services, elevating the liveability and connectivity of the thriving area.

“It offers the convenience of a supermarket, opportunities for local businesses and specialty retail, while supporting growing families through childcare services,” he said.

“Activated frontages and alfresco dining will offer comfortable, safe and inviting places to gather and spend time, creating a vibrant hub and providing a strong sense of identity for the local neighbourhood.”

Oreana’s proposed centre also would be next to the future Clyde Regional Park—120ha of multi-use, active and open space.

The acquisitive diversified property group has secured several sites during the past 12 months in greenfield hotspots such as Donnybrook, Wyndham Vale and Tarneit. It also has a pipeline of retail hubs under construction including The Village Alira, The Place Epping and the Kallo Neighbourhood Activity Centre.
