Olympic Park Metro Station Homes Move Ahead
Concept designs for the Sydney Olympic Park Metro West station and surrounding precinct were revealed recently, confirming plans for the only four-platform station on the Sydney Metro network alongside an integrated development of about 500 apartments.
Designed by Architectus, the underground station will sit south of the existing Olympic Park railway station and feature a side-island-side platform configuration, allowing it to switch into "event mode" during major matches and concerts at the precinct.
In this mode, the station is designed to handle up to 25,000 passengers an hour, on top of the 40,000 passengers an hour the neighbouring heavy rail station already manages.
The station will be enclosed within a new precinct, adding retail and commercial space at ground level.
Developer Ecove Group and builder FCC Construction Australia will deliver the 500 apartments across two residential towers of 42 and 32 storeys, after the consortium was selected from a shortlist of three tenderers that also included Gamuda and MTR, and John Holland and Freecity.
It is Ecove’s second major Sydney Olympic Park commitment in recent years, after lodging State Significant Development plans in 2021 for a separate $250 million, 45-storey tower comprising 464 serviced apartments and a commercial building at Australia Avenue in the same precinct.
Ecove is also the developer behind the Opal Tower in Sydney Olympic Park, which was evacuated in December 2018 after structural cracking was discovered in the building.
Transport Minister John Graham said the station would improve access to Sydney Olympic Park’s events precinct, which supports more than 10 million visitors a year.
“Sydney Olympic Park metro station will have sports and entertainment fans cheering when it provides unrivalled access to our biggest venues,” Graham said.
The project has moved through several planning stages.
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment granted approval for the Sydney Metro West concept and tunnelling works in March 2021, followed by approval for rail infrastructure, stations, precincts and operations in January 2023.
The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure approved the over and adjacent station development at Sydney Olympic Park in 2024.
An amended concept environmental impact statement was placed on public exhibition between August and September 2025, and a submissions report has since been lodged and is under assessment.
The final proposal will still be subject to a detailed state significant development application and further community consultation before construction can proceed.
