Newcastle Baby Boomers Get a Hand With Downsizing

PRD Nationwide Newcastle and Lake Macquarie has expanded its services to offer downsizing advice to baby boomer generation as they start to retire.

The group has established Easy Move, a service which guides Newcastle seniors who wish to free up their capital by moving into a smaller and less expensive home through the downsizing process.

The organisation is a tight group of alliance partners who are specialists in fields that can play a role in the sometimes overwhelming downsizing process, according to Easy Move director Allan Kentwell.

“We have established a specialised property service for local seniors who wish to make the move from a traditional family home to a retirement style property,” Mr Kentwell said.

“It starts with assisting the client to sell their home, helping them find a retirement property that suits their financial and lifestyle needs and then takes them all the way through to simultaneous settlements of their outgoing and new properties.

“In that time our staff assist with negotiations, documentation and the all-important moving process.

“There is no add-on cost associated with the service; we see it as a value-add to the comprehensive sales process undertaken by PRD.”

Easy Move offers clients legal advice around the sale of their current property and the title or tenancy provisions of the property under consideration.

Clients are also offered advice on a makeover and de-cluttering of their current home to help maximise the sale price and specialist guidance on any repairs and maintenance that will enhance the appeal of the property for sale.

Mr Kentwell said the focus for downsizing seniors needed to be on improving lifestyle, amenity, convenience and comfort, both physical and financial.

Mr Kentwell said moving to a smaller property or retirement living situation was not only about squeezing belongings and activities into a smaller space.

“It does help to start with a discussion with people who are happy to help and guide you through every phase and milestone of the transition; that’s what we do at Easy Move,” he said.

“We also like to involve family members in the process to ensure the move is comfortable and satisfying for everyone involved.

“For many people, once the decision is made to downsize the process becomes very liberating.

“Downsizing your home can then become the catalyst for renewal and refreshing your environment and lifestyle.”
