Neometro Turns Dirt on Fifth Brunswick Residential Development
Construction has begun on Neometro’s fifth Brunswick development, a high-end townhouse project at 146 Union Street.
The development reached its presale threshold faster than any previous project in the group’s 40-year history.
The ground works and basement now under way will be delivered by Murwil Construction, a Melbourne-based builder operating across residential, institutional, and commercial sectors.
The site at Brunswick, about 5km north of Melbourne’s CBD.
The development is Neometro’s fifth in the suburb and adds to a pipeline of completed projects across Melbourne’s inner suburbs, including Jewell Station, 17 Union Street and 1 Wilson Avenue at Brunswick.
The group plans to launch its sixth project in the area, at 55 Albert Street, 50 apartments in Brunswick East opposite Fleming Park, this year.
Designed by Neometro in collaboration with Topology Studio, 146 Union Street comprises 24 three-bedroom townhouses with landscaped private gardens, secure basement car parking, EV-ready infrastructure and bike storage.
The two-level homes have been designed around natural light, ventilation and indoor-outdoor connections, with select townhouses featuring private rooftop terraces with city views, the developer said.
Landscape design by Mud Office will provide gardens and landscaped areas, while sustainability features include solar panels, rainwater harvesting, all-electric appliances, double glazing and an average 7-star NatHERS rating.
Neometro director Lochlan Sinclair said the strong sales response reflected growing demand for medium-density housing in established suburbs where detached housing had become increasingly difficult for many buyers to access.
“As Melbourne continues to grow, embracing a greater diversity of housing types is inevitable and essential,” Sinclair said.
“Townhouses allow people to stay rooted in the culture and convenience of established inner suburbs, without the financial strain of being priced out or the burden of lengthy commutes.”
The construction start comes as developers increasingly target established middle-ring suburbs to deliver housing close to transport, employment, retail and community infrastructure.
Neometro said the townhouses were designed to provide buyers with move-in-ready homes that reduced the cost and uncertainty often associated with renovating older properties.
Construction at 146 Union Street is expected to be completed next year.
