Like Manhattan, the skyscrapers of Shibam were built on a rectangular grid of streets and squares, however unlike Manhattan the towering buildings are built entirely of mud and clay dating back to the 16th century.
Located in Yemen's central Hadhramaut district, Shibam is home to over 7,000 people and is packed with around 500 mud skyscrapers standing between five and 11 storeys and reaching heights of 100 feet.
