Kanye Announces Plans to ‘Build Cities’, Unveils Architecture Firm

Rapper Kanye West has taken to Twitter to announce he is starting an architecture firm, Yeezy Home.

“We’re starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better,” West wrote.

Yeezy Home will fall under the rapper’s brand Yeezy, a fashion label launched with sportswear giant Adidas in 2015.

Prior to establishing Yeezy, West set up his own design company "Donda", working closely with a team of directors, designers and architects.

“I hang around architects mostly, people that wanna make things as dope as possible… This is the reason why I’m working with five architects at a time.”

“The time spent in a bad apartment, I can’t get that back. But the education I can get from working on it is priceless,” said West.

West worked alongside renowned Axel Vervoordt to design his 'own Yeezy home' 743sq m Hidden Hills home, spending upwards of $27 million on renovations.

West has been a long-time advocate of architecture. In 2013, he visited the Harvard Graduate School of Design, stood on a studio desk and voiced his concerns on the current state of design.

“I really do believe that the world can be saved through design, and everything needs to actually be 'architected.' I believe that utopia is actually possible — but we're led by the least noble, the least dignified, the least tasteful, the dumbest, and the most political.”

During a recent interview, West stated he had purchased 300 acres of unspoiled land in Calabasas, Los Angeles.

“I’m going to be one of the biggest real-estate developers of all time, what Howard Hughes was to aircrafts and what Henry Ford was to cars, just the relationships I have with architects, my understanding of space and sacred proportions, just this new vibe, this new energy,” he went on.

“We gonna develop cities.”
