Brisbane-based developer Horan Group has filed plans for its second foray into the Gold Coast.
Following up its apartment tower at Broadbeach, Horan Group has submitted plans to the Gold Coast City Council for a 16-storey, 233-key hotel at Surfers Paradise.
DBI has designed the hotel for the 2409sq m site at 9-17 Cypress Avenue.
An at-grade car park would make way for the Cypress Hotel development, which is two blocks back from the beach and close to Gurner’s approved La Pelago project at Budds Beach.
The hotel includes four separate function spaces on levels 4 and 15, and 98 car parking spaces across two podium levels.
According to DBI’s architectural design statement the intent was to create a “scultpural yet subtle response” to the corner block.
“The play of forms and lighting, the contextual screening, the curated selection of materials, and the green elements combine to compose a timeless and address at the crossroad between the Nerang River and the Beach,” the report said.
“With a height of 15 storeys, Cypress Avenue Hotel offers a proportionate and responsive scale for its location and complements this hotel precinct of Surfers Paradise.
“The 233-room hotel provides a mix of guest, accessible, family and [hotel] suites, with an activated retail space at ground and a recreational 20m pool, a fitness centre and a rooftop bar at level 15, along with function and meeting rooms.”
The hotel would be near the Cypress Avenue light rail station in a predominantly hotel precinct which includes Meriton’s Ocean, Mantra Crown Towers, Breakfree Imperial Surf and Breakfree Beachpoint.
DBI Architects also designed plans for Horan Group’s 28-storey apartment tower at 11 Rosewood Avenue at Broadbeach.
The 120-apartment tower would include a mix of 96 two-bedroom apartments and 24 three-bedroom apartments, with a five per floor configuration.
Horan Group built Mirada at Suttons Beach in Brisbane’s Moreton Bay region, and Peak Apartments in Brisbane.
