Housing Australia Adds 18,000 Homes as Contracts Confirmed

More than 18,000 social and affordable homes have now been contracted nationally, according to Housing Australia.

Contracts for 18,650 homes have been signed under the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF) and the National Housing Accord Facility (NHAF) for all projects included in two rounds of proposals.

Under the proposals, 9284 social homes and 9366 affordable homes across 279 projects are moving forward nationally.

Round one that began in January of 2024 will provide around 4283 social and 9366 affordable homes nationally. In December that year, round two was opened with an improved procurement and contracting process.

Federal Housing Minister Clare O’Neill said that the successful projects contracted in that second round would provide 5001 social homes across metropolitan and regional locations.

Housing Australia has supported the projects with $14 billion in funding through availability payments, concessional loans and grants.

The program has a five-year target of 20,000 social and 20,000 affordable homes.

In Victoria, 1275 social homes across 25 projects have been contracted, with $991 million in funding from the Federal Government in round two and $360 million from the Victorian Government.

The homes will support self-determined housing for First Nations people, families, older women and young people at risk of homelessness.

In New South Wales, 1535 social homes across 14 projects under an almost $1.2 billion investment have been contracted while in Western Australia, 525 new social homes are to build on the more than 3300 social homes the WA Government has built since 2021.
