Emporia to be developed in the social heart of Melbourne

Emporia, named after the Grand Edwardian retail stores of Prahran will be the newest mixed-use development to be built on the southwest corner of Commerical Road and Grattan Street.

Located opposite Prahran Market and next to the Cullen Hotel, Emporia is in the social heart of Melbourne, in the Prahran/South Yarra precinct.

Emporia, to be built by Walton Construction, will consist of 140 one, two and three-bedroom apartments over 8 levels.

The building will also feature a residential lobby with a communal landscaped garden, lounge and terrace.

Six individual retail premises have been proposed to front onto Commercial Road. Among the retailers is Melbourne coffee innovator, Salvatore Malatesta.

Retail parking at ground level and 160 basement car parks are also available, which is a key point of interest for an apartment complex in this precinct.

Designed by Chris Idle of the Idle Architecture Studio, the use of different materials such as white concrete, anodised aluminium and tinted glass paneling to create a curvilinear form, give the building façade a distinctive look.

Emporia will be developed by Property Development Analysis Australia and OXDRA Pty Ltd, a private Australian company with extensive property investment and development interest in China, Hong Kong and Australia.

Renowned interior design firm, Carr Design Group, have been contracted to create contemporary and stylish living spaces. Emphasis has been placed on ensuring apartments are filled with natural lights, ventilation and privacy to all areas. While semi-open plan layouts connect internal and external areas.

Apartments will feature simplistic kitchens designed by Snaidero. The fully imported kitchens will include durable glass-fronted white joinery, light Caesar Stone benchtops and Swedish Asko stainless steel appliances.

Potential buyers have the choice of apartments with views of Melbourne’s CBD, Royal Botantic Gardens, Port Phillip Bay or to Grattan Gardens. Close proximity to tram lines and a 3-minute walk from Prahran Station, provide Emporia with a link to the Greater Melbourne Area.

Pricing for one-bedroom apartments start at $380,000. One-bedroom apartments range from 43 to 50sqm internally, with a 6sqm balcony.

Two-bedroom apartments range from 60 to 74sqm, with an 8sqm balcony. While a trio of three-bedroom apartments are 148sqm with a 57sqm terrace.

Demolition is now complete on the site, paving the way for construction to commence on Emporia. The development is due for completion June 2014.
