Early Works Contractor for Brisbane’s $3.8bn Stadium Revealed
Queensland contractor BMD has secured the next stage of early works for Brisbane’s $3.8-billion Olympic stadium, with engineering consultancy GHD joining as design partner.
The stage will prepare the Victoria Park site for construction of the venue ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Awarded by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Co-ordination Authority (GIICA), the early works package includes bulk earthworks, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, haul roads, erosion and sediment controls, semi-permanent fencing and a logistics plaza.
GHD will provide multidisciplinary design and technical advisory services for the package, supporting site preparation before construction of the 63,000-seat Brisbane Stadium begins.
The appointment follows preliminary geotechnical investigations and survey work undertaken by GIICA since taking possession of the Victoria Park site in June.
Infrastructure minister Jarrod Bleijie said appointing Queensland companies demonstrated the government's commitment to delivering the project while maximising local industry participation.
BMD chief executive Scott Power said the project team was focused on careful planning and strong collaboration with GIICA, GHD and the broader community to ensure the early works set the stadium project up for success.

GHD Queensland regional general manager Malcolm Dixon said the consultancy was proud to bring almost 90 years of experience supporting the state's growth to the project.
“Working alongside BMD, we have an opportunity to help shape infrastructure that delivers lasting benefits for Queensland communities,” Dixon said.
The early works contract is separate from the main stadium build, with consortiums Built Australia/Sacyr and John Holland/BESIX Watpac remaining in contention under an early contractor involvement process to deliver the venue.
The Brisbane Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics during the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games before becoming the long-term home of the Brisbane Lions and Queensland's elite cricket teams, replacing the Gabba as Brisbane's premier oval venue.
The stadium will have a legacy capacity of 63,000, expanding to about 70,000 for concerts.
The appointments come as Queensland accelerates delivery of its Olympic infrastructure program following the transfer of Victoria Park to GIICA and the commencement of preparatory works last month.
