Bates Smart Wins Parramatta Tower Project

1

Architect Bates Smart has been chosen to design Walker Corporation’s Aspire Tower in Parramatta following a design competition.

The company beat off a field of four to design the 90-storey tower which will have an end value of $700 million. It will be located in the $2 billion Parramatta Square redevelopment.

There are concerns however about the height of the proposed tower which may impact on aviation space. Walker Corporation has said it would lodge a DA for an initially smaller 70-storey tower and the continue discussions for an additional 20 storeys.

At its full height the building would consist of 700 apartments, 150-room hotel, sky deck and public centre.

"We are very pleased with the jury's choice," Walker Corp chairman Lang Walker said. "Bates Smart has created an iconic and innovative design concept for the centrepiece of one of the country's largest urban renewal projects."
