[+] Evolving Workplaces Impacting Mental Health

Much of how we live and work has changed, thanks to the global pandemic.

An aspect of this evolution that hasn’t been given the airtime, however, are the mental and emotional aspects, according to Charter Hall workplace strategy manager Tica Hessing.

In this TUD Plus Briefing taken from The Urban Developer’s New Workplace vSummit, Hessing explains that globally, the data to know if new measures were succeeding is not available.

“How we can do that is actually ask the people themselves how they are experiencing the space,” she said.

“I don’t think that, across the world, we have dived into this sort of technology enough yet.

“We have a lot of information about the physical and virtual, and when we talk about ‘smart’ buildings that’s the overlap of those two, but what about the emotional, where do we get that information from?”

Hessing said the ability to work from home had existed before Covid but had never really happened.

Now, after 18 months or more of work from home being necessary, businesses were looking at how they can shift the way they work and that this was informing what kind of environment and real estate they needed.

“But we are very much in an experimental phase and, as a landlord, we are really keen to understand what works for our tenants so we can be there with them on the journey of experimentation and co-creation,” Hessing said.

“Employees’ expectations have risen in a number of areas … we want to tailor the office experience for that.”
