Designed with a business model to keep contributing to the costs of running social and affordable housing, Redfern’s Pemulwuy Project Precinct is not just environmentally sustainable but economically as well.
The entirety of the Pemulwuy Project has been delivered to the AHC debt-free and unencumbered through a project management agreement developed and implemented by Deicorp.
With 62 homes across 6772sq m, a connection to land and culture through a gallery, childcare and other facilities, and provision for ongoing education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders built into the precinct plan, the project is an example of how social and affordable housing development should be done.
Precinct 1 - The Pemulwuy Affordable Housing project comprises a site area of 6,776sq m and delivers 26 apartments and 36 townhouses together with a 885sq m gymnasium and a 492sq m art gallery and performance space.
There are 26 affordable housing apartments with 21 two-bedroom apartments and five three-bedroom apartments housed within a five level building. Adjoining these are the 36 townhouses comprising five two-, 18 three- and 13 four-bedroom dwellings.
All of the facilities, including the 62 affordable housing apartments and townhouses, were delivered in full ownership of the Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) without debt or encumbrances.
