Subi East ‘Dustbowl’ Criticism Rejected by WA Government

Western Australia’s planning minister John Carey has rejected claims that Labor’s six-year push to redevelop the area around the state’s one-time home of football has become a dustbowl.
On the last sitting day of the Western Australian Parliament for 2025, Liberal shadow treasurer Sandra Brewer accused the WA Government of dragging its feet on the Subi East project just west of the Perth CBD.
“It should have been the most straightforward project to assemble and sell to the development industry to create a vibrant inner-urban precinct, but it is tumbleweeds at Subi East,” Brewer said on December 16.
“This is despite [then] Premier Mark McGowan saying in August 2019 that 2000 more homes would be built closer to the public transport links.”
