The potential for more than 13,000 homes has been unlocked in Queensland this week thanks to the latest round of funding under the state’s $2-billion infrastructure scheme.
Under the Residential Activation Fund program, up to 13,695 homes across Logan, Toowoomba/South-West Queensland, Townsville and Brisbane could be built due to fast-tracked road, water, sewer and stormwater works.
The state initiated the fund to unblock development pipelines by accelerating critical infrastructure projects, long an impediment, particularly for greenfield projects.
At Logan, 8250 homes will be unlocked thanks to $30 million for two projects—$20 million toward a $61.3-million development in the Flagstone Priority Development Area, projected to enable 3350 homes; and $10 million for the Yarrabilba Dollarbird Drive intersection upgrade that will unlock 4900 homes.
Funding totalling $28.2 million has been allocated for four projects at Toowoomba and South-West Queensland to clear the way for 2560 homes.
At Toowoomba, $20.1 million has been earmarked for the Central Highfields Activation Project by the Toowoomba Regional Council involving intersection upgrades, road realignment, stormwater works and undergrounding of services.
The funding will open up around 343 home sites in the region.
Also allocated was $5 million for the Fernvale South Productivity Link to unlock about 2000 homes, $2 million for the Lakeview Estate at Gatton for sewer mains to enable infill lots and $1 million for the Hayden Street Upgrade at Dalby to support a subdivision on Blaxland Road.
The Cosgrove Estate at Townsville will receive $14.7 million to unlock 1600 homes.
And at Rochedale in Brisbane, $61.6 million will fund two projects enabling 1285 homes.
This includes $47 million towards the $57.4 million Gardner Road Extension, enabling 685 homes, and $14.7 million for the Rochedale Road and Ford Road Stormwater Project, delivering drainage capacity to unlock about 600 homes.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said the funding prioritised shovel-ready projects, with at least half to be directed to regional Queensland.
