International architecture firm PTW Architects, in association with award-winning practice Collins and Turner, and landscape architects McGregor Coxall, have won a competition design for one of Sydney’s most iconic sites - the former Cumberland Newspapers headquarters located at 142 Macquarie Street, Parramatta.
This gateway site by developer Dyldam sits at the edge of the CBD, is close to both the Parramatta River and surrounded by several significant heritage sites.
The team’s winning design features three mixed-use towers, a 60-storey residential tower along with an additional 35 level and a 25 level building hosting 964 residential apartments, commercial, various retail, restaurant and bar facilities, the option of a hotel and serviced apartment component of up to 150 rooms, and open spaces to create a vibrant epicentre for the community. The project will form a dynamic new civic plaza, maximising views of the Parramatta River, particularly running east to the Sydney CBD and to the north across the river and of the Blue Mountains.
