Project Focus: Melbourne’s Diamond In The Sky

88 Melbourne from New Sky Group promises to act as a gateway to the city, strategically located in the heart of Southbank and its entertainment precinct including Crown Casino. Melbourne’s CBD is just across the Yarra River and within easy reach of the Victorian Arts Centre, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Australian Ballet.

The 60-storey apartment tower will be illuminated by thousands of twinkling diamond-shaped lights which will offer a distinctive look.

According to architects Rothelowman, “The façade's graphic motif was developed through an exploration of interplays between light and shade in faceted metal jewellery and folded origami. Its architectural expression translates the form into an elegant, timeless building that celebrates the city, and delivers the fine grain detail required for a residential building.”

88 Melbourne is the second project of Melbourne developer New Sky Group, a boutique developer with major aspirations headed by managing director Judy Gu.

The $100 million project will consist of 252 luxury apartments at 88 Queensbridge Street Southbank.

Designed for owner occupiers, 88 Melbourne primarily features two and three bedroom apartments, with 12 upper levels devoted to three-bedroom residences, sub-penthouses and two full-floor penthouses.

Apartments range in size from 50-58sqm for 1 bedroom apartments, up to 88sqm for 2 bedroom and 113-158sqm for the 3 bedroom apartments with an average of five apartments per floor.

Two penthouses occupy full floors and feature floor to ceiling heights of four metres.

KPDO has created interiors inspired by the elegant and subtle sophistication of Europe’s best hotels and luxury homes. The feel is soft luxury with a hint of masculinity brought through by a range of textural finishes.

The building also offers five-star resident facilities across a dual-height whole-floor space on level eight. This area is devoted to an indoor lap pool featuring a spa, steam room and sauna.

The Australian reported that the Southbank site was purchased by Chinese Group Financial Fook in 2014 for $18 million.
