Perth Airport Plans Solar Farm, Refreshes International Terminal

Perth Airport is building a 4.545 MW solar farm and has refreshed its main terminal with the goals of producing net zero emissions by 2032 and serving 30 million passengers a year by 2046.
Airport chief executive Jason Waters said the new solar farm would integrate into the airport’s existing 22 kV network and be built east of the airport’s general aviation area.
The airport will build the solar farm in partnership with AGL. The project is scheduled for construction next year.
Waters said that 30 million passengers would move through the airport by 2046, generating 75,400 jobs and contributing $17 billion to Western Australia’s economy annually.
“Our first solar farm will produce an estimated annual energy yield of more than 10 gigawatt hours and will complement other energy systems such as the electrification of vehicle and equipment fleets, expansion of rooftop solar systems and future additional solar farms on the estate,” he said.

Meanwhile, the airport has refreshed the retail and hospitality area of the international component of its Terminal 1, with 14 food, beverage and retail outlets added or revitalised.
New venues include Matso’s Brewhouse, The Jerky Co. and Heys Luggage. Perth Duty Free has also expanded its footprint in the terminal.
New features of the terminal include a bookable sensory room, changing rooms, accessibility lanes at security screening and relief areas for service animals.
