Minister Fast-Tracks Brisbane Olympic Village

Northshore Hamilton Athletes Village

Queensland has picked up the pace of preparations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, adding 1.2km of waterfront property to the site that will include the athletes’ village.

The state’s planning minister Steven Miles has approved an amendment to expand the Northshore Hamilton Priority Development Area, about 6km north of the CBD, effectively fast-tracking the project as it can now proceed to the planning stage proper.

The village will be built on land owned by Economic Development Queensland within the Northshore Hamilton PDA, which was declared in 2008.

The development spans more than 300ha, with about 3km of river frontage.

“It's estimated Northshore Hamilton will have over 14,000 homes and be home to more than 24,000 residents to help meet south-east Queensland's fast-growing population,” Miles said.

The development will feature a mix of retail, residential, and commercial properties, as well as be home to 10,000 Games athletes. Upgrades to roads and public venues is also part of the plan.

“It will be one of the biggest contributions of Brisbane riverfront parkland since South Bank was established,” Miles said.

“This development will cement Northshore as a world-class lifestyle, recreation and events destination.

“These changes also provide for the future planning of the athlete village for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games—and the long-term economic and community benefits to follow.

“This city-shaping project presents an incredible opportunity to showcase Brisbane’s iconic waterfront to the world and deliver a long-lasting legacy for the state.”
