Real Estate Masters Helping Prepare Tomorrow’s CEOs

Students Share Thoughts About IE School of Architecture and Design’s Global Master in Real Estate Development

The IE Global Master in Real Estate Development is proving a robust response to the modern challenges of a dynamic sector.

Back in November, some of the first real estate professionals to study the program spoke to us—we were keen to hear about their goals and how the program is helping them achieve their aims, and this is what they shared with us...

Lamia Hariz, Lebanon

Lamia sought out the Global Master in Real Estate Development in part because the program’s blended format allowed her to enter this booming sector while maintaining her professional life.

Hariz is confident that this intensive masters will allow her to grow personally and professionally and quickly secure a job in what’s a competitive sector.

“By covering all the aspects of real estate—namely development, investment, urbanisation and legal—the program will give me both a holistic overview of the sector and a specialisation in the areas of my interest,” she said.

“Besides the technical know-how, I will be able to grow my network and start building connections with my professors, who are a world-class faculty.”

Reginald Jokhan, Fiji

Jokhan’s interest in the program stems from a desire to build upon his six years’ experience working in his family’s brokerage company, where he works with both large-scale developers and first-time home buyers and sellers.

He also wants to dive directly into real estate development himself.

“The program is helping me understand the finer nuances of development from beginning to end—and a lot of what happens behind the scenes.”

Darwin King, Australia

King—who first learned about the program from an article in The Urban Developer—came with a wealth of real estate development experience already.

He has worked in the industry since the year 2000 and is managing director of Queensland-based property developers Pacifiq.

“Our company is about to embark on its largest project to date, a new township development near Brisbane which will eventually house 50,000 people in 21,000 homes and will be developed over the next 20 to 30 years,” he said.

“I’m using the Global Master in Real Estate Development to get myself ready for this upcoming project.”

Ryan Theodore, Australia, UK, Qatar

With a career history spanning three continents, Theodore was looking to further broaden his professional horizons as director of architecture at Hamad Medical Corporation, the national healthcare provider in Qatar.

“Having held principal positions on major projects, and having moved across from consultancy to client-side investment, development and government positions; the program provides me with the tools, knowledge and foresight to significantly broaden and leverage an existing knowledge base and professional experience,” he said.

“It allows me to not only understand cause and effect, but to make more informed strategic decisions and stronger contributions to visions related to real estate development and investment for better outcomes.”
